Ceramics artist and the Chair of the Ceramics Department at the Kansas City Art Institute, Cary Esser, presents a new series of wall reliefs using inspiration from visiting the ancient caves of Cappadocia, Turkey and seeing examples of the Native American Parflech, folded rectangles of hide that form carrying cases.

Marcus Cain presents a series of paintings inspired as a reply to the constant stream of information experienced in our hyperactive world. Using a method of stamping on canvas with pieces of wood dipped in colored paint, he weaves patterns that create textures that both come together and break apart.

Imagine That! Kansas City presents a collaborative exhibition comprising of textile drawings by painter Laurena Roytberg and the artists at Imagine That! Roytberg’s practice focuses on exploring how to filter her research of the grid, the feedback loop, spacetime and the human perception of optical information through quilt-making.

A solo exhibition, Compersion showcases the digital prints and sculptural installation of Monica Dixon. The images explore displaced sensuality through soft forms and colorful gestures in familiar but unrecognizable spaces, while the installations distort materials like fabric and foam that support the active and resting states of the human body.

Tonight a free screening of Donald Cammell’s Demon Seed followed by a discussion moderated by Melissa Lenos. Also, an ‘idealized object release’ will take place featuring Aaron Storck. The Exhibition is  a display of new works by Corey Antis, Hadley Clark, Kelly Clark, Jonah Criswell, Olivia Gibb, Will Henry, Caitlin Horsman, Peyton Pitts, and Allan Wrinkler, curated by Jonah Criswell and Kelly Clark. These artists see the strange, surreal and unlikely in their own work as a reflection of their time.
