FRIDAY

The Cave-  Ky Anderson at Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art

Friday November 4th 5:00-8:00 pm

Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art

2004 Baltimore Ave

Kansas City, MO 64108

“The Cave” is a series of new work by Brooklyn-based artist Ky Anderson. Her paintings calls to mind artist Philip Guston. There is a similarity in which, as Guston himself says,   “The act of drawing is what locates, suggests, discovers.” Her painting reverberates and gently makes trouble.  Like Guston, it abandons the principals of “pure abstraction” in favor of shapes and forms that are more representational.    Anderson’s work is neither absolute, directed imagery nor too random as to not imply anything.  There is dialogue to be sussed out in each painting. Questions about color, line and mark-making are waiting to be asked when the viewer is willing to take the time and question it.

Ky Anderson has lived and worked in Brooklyn, NY for over twenty years.  She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from The Kansas City Art Institute in 1995.  Anderson’s work is exhibited across the country including New York, San Francisco and Chicago.  She continues to have strong ties to the Kansas City community. This is Ky Anderson’s inaugural solo show at Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art.
