The WEB: January 2025, Week Two

Welcome back to another week of art happenings. They see to always be happening. I am going to dive right in to what is happening this weekend in Seattle.

SECOND THURSDAY CAPITOL HILL ART WALK

I am never in Capitol Hill for art walk…but this looks fun! Now open…

Split Decision, Colored pencil on toned paper, 5.5”x8.5”, 2024

Amara Eke

The Factory Seattle

January 9 - February 2, 2025 | Opening January 9, 6-9 PM

From the Instagram: In her first-ever solo exhibition, Amara Eke takes us on a colorful journey through five years of drawings and collages on paper. The title Paper Planes nods to both the medium and the expansive “planes of existence” these works explore, charting a timeline of the artist’s evolution—from her early experiments to her bold, glittering compositions of today.

Amara’s vibrant works blend acrylics, intricate patterns, and shimmering textures to illustrate themes of interconnectedness, time, space, and individuality. With a unique visual language and a dedication to pushing the boundaries of composition and spectacle, her art invites viewers into imaginative realms bursting with life and color. See more from The Factory here.

I also curate the walls at Post Pike Bar & Cafe in Capitol Hill and Georgetown! Stop by Capitol Hill location to check out Seattle Refined’s recent Artist of the Week, Elinore Bucholtz, and the Georgetown location to see our own cook’s work, Julian Bustamonte!

I find the titles of these next shows to be about as compelling yawning. I am always a sucker for art made from recyclable material, though, the subject of the first show. It is hot and ethical to be doing so, and I believe very much a PNW things to do. Undone

Brian Cypher &
Damien Hoar de Galvan

January 11 - February 22, 2025 | Opening January 11, 5-8 PM

What is it to be undone? Your shoelaces can be undone, one has become undone. As a kid, if I said, “I’m done,” at the dinner table, my step-mother would retort, “Roast beef is done, you’re finished.” Her comment left me feeling undone when I was told I was finished. What is finished? Final, complete, being done and then to be undone. The unraveling begins…” Read more, here.
